Rift-sawn oak cabinets and light oak floors balance soft white Mont Blanc quartzite countertops and backsplash and a crisp white range hood. Meanwhile, black glass-front upper cabinets and a black island add a touch of drama.

9. Sensational Slabs
To make this Chicago-area kitchen look as large as possible, designer Stephanie Frees of added white cabinets on the perimeter and used the same marble-look quartz slabs for the countertops and backsplash to visually blend elements together. She also installed the slabs so the gray veining runs slightly horizontal to virtually widen the room. A gray-stained wood island base and wood flooring anchor the room in warmth.

8. Natural Touches
This uplifting Texas kitchen by Tonia Coleman of Le Belle Maison Interiors is awash in warm white walls and Shaker-style cabinets (Alabaster by Sherwin-Williams). Varying cream tones in the handcrafted 4-by-4-inch clay zellige backsplash tiles and the quartzite countertops keep the space bright while adding design nuance and interest.
Maple shelves and range hood detail, as well as wood stools and weathered zinc pendants, keep the space from veering too stark.

7. Classically Cool
Classic elements and cool dark blue-gray cabinets make this Minneapolis kitchen by Kelly Caruso of Regarding Design feel both timeless and on trend. “Classical elements are featured throughout the kitchen, including cased openings, cabinet built-ins and cozy window seating, creating an ambiance steeped in tradition,” Caruso says.
These traditional details are balanced by an open layout and a bold cabinet color (Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball) that feels fresh and contemporary. To enhance the look, Caruso used unlacquered brass hardware that pops against the dark cabinetry.

6. Coastal Charm
This Arlington, Virginia, kitchen by designer Elena Eskandari feels bright and open thanks to the white cabinets, countertops and subway tile walls. But a blue island and touches of blue in the patterned backsplash tile and stools, as well as traditional lantern-style pendant lights in a polished nickel finish, elevate the look with coastal appeal.

5. Contemporary Craftsman
Designer Margarita Bravo took the existing Craftsman style in this Denver kitchen and transformed it with a contemporary twist. She updated the perimeter cabinets by covering them in a fresh coat of white paint, then added new walnut cabinets for the island and the appliance wall that nod to classic Craftsman woodwork.
To inject some drama into the white-and-wood material palette, Bravo used black backsplash tile with black grout, black stools and black hardware. The contemporary light fixture above the island adds a thoughtful design flourish.

4. Sublime Subtleties
This New York kitchen by designer Karen Wolf is all about subtle sophistication. The light-gray-painted cabinetry and range hood subtly contrast with the white walls and pick up the gray veining in the marble countertops. Warm wood touches show up on the island, floor, ceiling beams and hood detail. A tiled backsplash has a soft pattern that brings low-key movement. The curved-back counter stools and wavy glass pendant lights introduce rounded forms. And the black hardware and fixtures finish the room with a modern touch.

3. Picture-Perfect
Photographer R. Brad Knipstein captured this beautiful Menlo Park, California, kitchen by designer Amanda Teal.
Teal gave the white-and-wood space many well-considered details. Marble plays a starring role in the perimeter countertops, waterfall island and backsplash with ledge behind the range wall. Notice the dual white oak cabinet towers in the corner of the room. Each features a pair of glass cabinet doors, shaded wall sconces on two sides and intricate ceiling molding on top.

Sage green cabinets and a mix of Ming Green floral tile with white Thassos marble details in the backsplash join a rich wood island and range hood to create an earthy, organic look and feel in this Virginia kitchen by designer Sarah Farouk of FineLine Kitchens.
Fantasy Brown stone countertops complement the cabinet finishes and add subtle movement, and the large island can accommodate seven people.

The most-saved kitchen of 2022 is a warm and inviting space with cozy cottage style and a touch of rusticity. The homeowners looked at inspiration photos on Houzz before hiring designer Hannah Oravec of Lawless Design to help them realize their vision.
Warm white walls, marble countertops and a row of windows above the sink keep the space bright and welcoming. A rustic stone-look accent backsplash and quartersawn white oak cabinets in a natural finish give it character, while a gas fireplace takes it to another level of charm.
