9/11 Day of Service – Volunteer Opportunity At Wings Of Hope Ranch
9 am to 12 noon
Wings of Hope Ranch: A Christian-based non-profit ministry pairing rescued horses with children facing challenges to find hope and healing.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose: The Hanover County 9-11 project day will bring community members out to the ranch to share what we do here, meet the horses and complete multiple projects that support the daily operations of the ranch. Also special emphasis and duties this day will help us to prepare for an annual event called the “East Coast Ranch Ministry Clinic” that draws 300people to Wings of Hope Ranch for fellowship, education, and training on the subject of running an equine ministry. While it is open to anyone to participate, priority to Hanover County Employees is given to help celebrate their county wide day of service.
Volunteer Duties and Responsibilities: Upon arrival, volunteers will get a brief tour and explanation of the mission and facilities. After that, volunteers will select projects (written out on a giant white board) to work on. There will be a large list of tasks to choose from. There will be inside and outside jobs, dirty jobs and clean jobs, strenuous jobs and sitting jobs. Something for EVERYONE! Once you finish a task you can select another one off the white board. Jobs can include cleaning barn chores, weedwhacking, sweeping, cleaning appliances, dusting, organizing spaces for the clinic, writing thank you notes, preparing goodybags, setting up round pens, and more.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements: There are no specific skills you will need to participate. We will provide all the tools but you can bring your own weedwhacker if you like! That makes that job go faster. You will pick a task(s) that meets your skills and abilities. The only requirement is that you fill out the liability waiver. The link for that is here and will be included on the project site: https://www.wingsofhoperanch.org/waiver
How volunteer hours will be verified: Volunteer logs can be signed on site or via email. Hours can be posted on Community Foundation Engage as well.
Recommended attire: Dress for the weather! Shorts are fine if hot. If you plan to do weedwhacking, pants and boots as well as protective eyewear is recommended.
Parking information: Follow parking signs on arrival. Please only park in the designated parking field or around the “horseshoe” of the circular entrance.
What to Bring: Snacks (please nut free as we have children withsevere allergies attending our sessions). We will supply water.
