Games You Can Play With One Hand (2024)

Recently I broke my hand (check out my arm cannon◊) and it'll take about six weeks to heal, so I've been looking into games that I can play one handed. They're all PC games because I sure can't hold a controller, and so far I've thought of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (JRPG that can be played entirely with the mouse), Pix the Cat (arcade style game that only requires directional input to play) and Crypt of the Necro Dancer (rhythm dungeon crawler that also only needs directions). Also I haven't thought of any in particular but I expect I'll be able to play pretty much any point and click adventure. What games can you guys think of? Maybe we'll be able to compile a nice list that'll be helpful for all sorts of people who've injured or maybe don't even still have one of their hands!

First, more or less any TBS is fair game, since there's no real hurry. Similarly, a lot of grand strategy games (eg. most Paradox games) are slow enough paced that playing one-handed shouldn't be too big of a handicap.

If you have a mouse with side buttons, mapping some to forwards and backwards can let you play FPS games with one hand fairly well, though you might not wanna do multiplayer like that.

Also, where did you break your hand that they also had to cover all your fingers? I'm pretty sure that when I broke mine (many years ago now), they were able to leave my fingers free.

I once played a number of Gameboy titles like Legacy of Goku and Pokemon with one hand.

Of course, flash games and RPG's can probably be managed, provided they're turn-based.

Seriously though, I can only think of one console or handheld game offhand (puns~) which can be played with just one hand anyway: Kirby's Air Ride (as it consists of "move" and "do thing", for which the latter is almost any button, including L). As for PC games... It'd have to be mouse-only, I think, so maybe some visual novels?

Final Fantasy X is another turn based console option.

I know you asked for PC, but if you've got a Nintendo 3DS, Bravely Default is intentionally set up to be playable entirely with your left hand, with the D-pad taking place of confirm and cancel, L being used to examine things, and the Select button being interchangeable with the Start button. The only thing that might pose an issue is the town rebuilding thing, which has you scroll across the screen with the touch pad, but that would mostly just require you to set the machine down on something when using that feature.

You should be fine with point-and-click adventure games (I'd recommend the ones from Lucas Arts, especially Sam And Max Hit The Road and the Monkey Island series. Hilarious stuff.)

I'm not sure if they're on PC, but if they are, then I'd recommend the Ace Attorney series as well.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call on the 3DS is possible to play with just the left hand, especially the BMSs.

Shadowrun Returns can be played with just the mouse.

Well, if you want some turn based RP Gs for the PC...

Puzzle Quest is always a winner.

Loren The Amazon Princess for a risque fantasy romance RPG.

Cthulhu Saves The World would be as awkward as your other turn based RP Gs, but It's heavily recommended regardless.

And you could also get Gratuitous Space Battles, which is what it sounds like.

EVE Online is entirely mouse-driven, though you still need the keyboard to talk in chat. Whether it proves necessary to talk in chat depends on your playstyle.

One Finger Death Punch of course! Super Hexagon, Bit Trip Runner, Audiosurf, Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall also very playable; could be possible with FTL and Transistor (absolutely possible if you have one of those gaming mice with lots of buttons on the chassis). There could be some simple flight sims out there you could play if you have a decent joystick? (heh)

There's also Wii games. (heh heh)

Earth Bound. L is Talk/Inspect and Select is Cancel, and you can open the menu with Select-L.

One Finger Death Punch only requires 2 fingers...Ironically. It's a great stress doll game, once you get in the rhythm, and well worth 5 dollars, even if things get a bit samey. It's the kind of game you play as an interval between other things, every now and the-

Lots of Black Isle clickfests like Fallout/2 only really need one free hand to play well. And if you can handle a crap UI, NEO Scavenger is absorbing once you find out how things work.

Yeah, pretty much any turn-based RPG works just fine one-handed. On top of the excellent suggestions above, I recommend the Etrian Odyssey series (the fourth and a remake of the first are 3DS games, the first three are DS titles, but hard to find). 100% turn-based with no , very old school, lots of fun.

Another that I like that I find is a bit more available that it first appears is an older one for the DS, Radiant Historia. Completely turn-based, much more strategic than many of the genre, and a great story to boot.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
