Amyl And The Sniffers sind eine australische Punk-/Garage-Rock-Band aus Melbourne um Frontfrau und Sängerin Amy Taylor. Weitere Bandmitglieder sind Bryce Wilson (Schlagzeug), Dec Martens (Gitarre) und Gus Romer (Bass).
Ihre erste EP „Giddy Up“ nahmen Amyl And The Sniffers 2016 in nur 12 Stunden auf und luden sie direkt im Internet hoch. 2017 folgte die zweite EP „Big Attraction“, ebenfalls in Eigenregie. Erst 2018 veröffentlichte das Label Damaged Goods die beiden EPs im Doppelpack. Zu der Zeit hatten sich Amyl And The Sniffers mit ihren überzeugenden Live-Shows und Festival-Auftritten bereits einen Namen gemacht. Sie waren u. a. in den USA als Support für King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard auf Tour, was ihnen zu weiterer Bekanntheit verhalf. 2019 erschien das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum auf Rough Trade Records. Eine für 2020 geplante Tour musste aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie abgesagt werden, stattdessen gingen Amyl And The Sniffers ins Studio und nahmen ihr zweites Album „Comfort To Me“ (2021) auf. Das Album stieg nicht nur in den australischen Charts bis auf Platz 2, sondern war auch international ein Erfolg.
Als musikalische Einflüsse nennt die Band unter anderem ihre Landsleute Cosmic Psychos und AC/DC, aber auch Künstlerinnen wie Nancy Sinatra und Dolly Parton. Textlich wiederum zeigt sich Taylor u. a. von zeitgenössischem HipHop beeinflusst. Nach einer etwas längeren Veröffentlichungspause erschien mit „U Should Not Be Doing That“ im Mai 2024 eine neue Single, die auch Track des Tages bei ByteFM war.

Während viele Bands sich auf den frühen Alben austoben, um dann gesetztere, ausgereiftere Musik zu machen, haben Amyl And The Sniffers nichts an Wüstheit und Respektlosigkeit eingebüßt. Im Grunde genommen erklärten schon die Titel der beiden neuen Stücke alles über ihren Inhalt, sagt Taylor über die Single. Ganz so einfach ist es vielleicht nun doch nicht.
